Floor Craft
Floor craft can pose an added challenge particularly for new competitors. Before your rounds, check the floor conditions. Although the floor is usually well maintained, it may be fast (slippery) or slow (sticky). If the floor is fast, brush the sole of your shoes (some people spray little water on the sole of your shoes) before your rounds. If the floor is slow, it takes more leg muscles to move around.
Other Tips
- Keep your diet habits the same right before the competition. Don't crash diet at the last minute. It will negatively affect your performance.
- On the day of the competition, ladies should do their hair at home. More tools and mirrors are available at home. Eat on the day of the event even if you are not hungry. Lighter foods like trail mix will be better than juicy hamburgers. Save that for after the competition.
- Arrive at least 2 hours before your scheduled event and be ready (make up, clothes, shoes on) in the ballroom about 1 hour before the event.
- Scottish Rite Temple has generous size restrooms where you can change. You will be sharing this are with many other competitors. Keep all your belongings in a bag of traveling suitcase so your items won?t be mixed up with other competitors. Do not bring valuable items or leave them unattended.
- Stretch before you compete.
- There won't be a professional photographer at this event, so ask your friends to take pictures or video tape your performance. You can learn by looking at them later, too.
- Smile and do your best. If something goes wrong on the competition floor, don't stress out. Even championship level dancers make mistakes, including tripping and falling.
